by loiswakeman @ 28 Apr. 2008 - 16:55:25

How many words of four or more letters can you make from this grid? Each word cannot contain the same letter more than once. All words must appear in the OED. Proper nouns, plurals, and alternative spellings of the same word, are not eligible.

 Q  M  U  F
 E  Y  G  V
 T  L  B  R
 K  Z  S  A
 W  C  J  N
 O  D  H
 I  X  P

Scores:
100 = you're a Sun reader, right?
1,000 = OK
2,000 = good
5,000 = excellent
10,000 = get a life, man

Is there any reason for the order of the letters, or is it just to confuse us about its being the entire alphabet?

Just 5 qualifying words in the above sentence - I thought six until I realised that there are two Rs in order. I must be tired.

The latter. It was just a whim after doing a "nonagram" in the local paper, when I realised that the more letters you add, the more complex the task becomes. Not quite a geometric progression, but you get the idea.
